Lean into Lent

Make the Season More Meaningful

To assist us in our journey through Lent, our parish offers the following opportunities for spiritual growth.  We encourage each and every parishioner to take advantage of at least one of these opportunities; there's something everyday!  Remember, Lent is a time of sacrifice which helps us to grow in the spiritual life.  Give some of your time this Lent to grow closer to Our Lord!

1.) Daily Morning Mass - If your schedule permits, why not try to attend at least once a week in addition to your Sunday obligation? Every time that one shares in the celebration of the Eucharist, innumerable graces are gained and heaven anticipated. Many people who attend daily Mass attest that they have a sense of peace, calm, and spiritual strength when nourished by the daily Eucharist. Understandably there are many who, due to work or familial obligations, are unable to come to morning Mass, but there are MANY retired persons or others who could offer at least an extra half-hour or forty minutes to the Lord! In Saint Anne church morning mass is offered at 8:00 AM everyday and in Saint Winifred church morning mass is offered at 8:45 AM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday when South Hills Academy is in Session.

2.) Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament  - Spending quiet time with Jesus is invaluable and a sure way to super-charge your spiritual life. Relationships only grow when we spend time together; our relationship with God is no different! This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with the Lord in quiet prayer, and to deepen your relationship with Him. Adoration takes place in Saint Anne Church on Tuesdays, after the 8:00 AM mass.

3.) Divine Mercy Holy Hour and Benediction - All day Tuesday Eucharistic Adoration includes a Holy Hour and Benediction. As we move through the season of Lent, Deacon Vic will offer special reflections on the nine intentions of the Divine Mercy Novena. Reflections will focus on each intention, taken from St. Faustina's Diary, individually. Prayer begins at 3:00 PM in St. Anne church. Please consider joining this beautiful yet simple devotion through which many graces are offered for ourselves and our loved ones.  Benediction tkes place at 6:15 PM before the 6:30 PM Mass.

4.) Choral Vespers- Please consider joining us for a Holy Hour featuring Choral Vespers, Adoration, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on Sunday, March 30 at 5:00 PM.  Mass at 6:00 PM will immediately follow the Holy Hour.

What Is Vespers?
Vespers is the liturgy of evening prayer, one of the canonical hours of the Catholic Church. The word vesper translates to “evening” in Latin. Our Vespers liturgy will be prayed in the context of a Holy Hour, which will include Adoration, chanted psalms and canticles, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Why Attend Vespers?
When we pray the Liturgy of the Hours, we are able to unite ourselves in prayer to Christ Himself. Attending and praying Vespers helps us to fulfill Jesus’ command to “pray always” (Luke 18:1). In a special way, evening prayer helps us to express gratitude for the day that has passed and makes an evening sacrifice of praise to God. The Liturgy of the Hours is like an extension of the Eucharistic celebration. Our Vespers liturgy will provide you with an additional opportunity for prayer as part of your Lenten sacrifice.

5.) Stations of the Cross - The Stations are a powerful way to enter into and meditate on the suffering that Jesus endured for our salvation, and to unite our sufferings to His. This time-tested devotion will be offered in Saint Anne church at 6:30 PM on the Fridays of Lent and in Saint Winifred church at 1:00 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays (except during Holy week).
